They're Using Public Schools As A Wedge Issue!

The top image is a parody and the bottom is an actual billboard!

So the LAUSD School Board race is heating up and some powerful special interests are getting involved. The weird thing is, one of these special interests put up a billboard with my friend Ben Austin 's face on it -- comparing him to Trump. Not one of the candidates faces, but Ben who really couldn't be more opposed to Trump. If they didn’t already know that Ben worked in the Clinton White House and on five Democratic presidential campaigns, all they’d have to do is check out his Facebook or twitter feed to confirm his diametric opposition to Trump.

They also included Bill Bloomfield who is truly advocating for kids because he believes that equal access to a quality education is a civil right. I think using Trump-like tactics and comparing Ben and Bill to Trump is just unconscionable. So to point out how ridiculous, I'm posting a parody (posting both so you can compare).

If you looked at their billboard (the second image), how many of you would even know who Ben or Bill are? What their billboard is trying to do is use our sense of social justice as a weapon against us. We live in a world where the President of the United States was just acquitted by a bunch of old white guys just trying to protect their money. The country has enough trouble without spreading lies but they know we're angry and they're using that anger against us.

I guess what gets me pissed is that this infighting is between Democrats and it's tearing us apart. It's really undoing all the good work we did in 2018. At some point we need to ask ourselves: Why are they so opposed to change? Schools in Los Angeles have been failing for over 50 years - especially when it comes to kids in undeserved areas. Less than half of all kids in LAUSD schools graduate qualified to go to state schools even. Change is so important! Why is this entrenched interest fighting so hard to save this failing system?

Turning us against each other with lies and using our public schools as a wedge issue, really seems like something straight out of the Russia playbook. We need to be really careful right now because we can't afford to be manipulated. This coming primary election on March 3rd and the general in November might be the only chance we'll have to get things back on the right track. I don’t know about you, but to me, playing Democrats against each other right now is just bananas. The stakes are just too damn high.
